| Millard Bekmezian, retired Upper Dublin High School history teacher, passed away on January 10, 2007. He was 87. Mr. Bek was residing in a nursing facility lately, while battling kidney failure. His trusted companion, Rene Polsky {a retired Upper Dublin High School French teacher}, was with him to the very end. I had the pleasure of being in his 12th grade history honors class. I enjoyed his warmth, folksy wit, animated personality, and intellect. He treated us with dignity and respect. We grew to love him, even when there was a disagreement with his views. I had the honor of attending his memorial service yesterday, at an Armenia Church in Havertown. Many of my former high school teachers were in attendance: William Wemple {retired World Cultures/ History teacher}, Jeff Huddleston {retired History teacher} and Dr. Henry Virgilio {retired Spanish teacher}. We had a brief. bittersweet reunion. Mr. Bek and these gentlemen were exceptional teachers who reached us in a profound way. They enriched our lives and gave us a grounding. We were fortunate to have been their students. | |||

| I have enjoyed reading all of the messages and "tall tales" on this web site. I have only one suggestion for the next reunion. Try to schedule for a time outside of the Thanksgiving to Chistmas to New Years calendar. My wife works on Fort Bragg, NC and that is her busiest time of year. Especially with so many soldiers deployed and the families needing her help in preparing for the holidays. | |||

| I have just sooo enjoyed reading all your notes and messages!!! What a joy it must have been for everyone to re-connect after 35 years!! Bob and I have been married 30 1/2 years, and are now living out here in the Denver metro area of Colorado. What a beautiful part of this country we live in!!! Our daughters are all married now....hard to believe, yet true!!! We love our boys and have been blessed with such a beautiful family. We miss the East ....our 'heritage' and someday pray that we may be able to relocate back East. Wishing you all a blessed Christmas celebration! It would be wonderful to be able to make it to the NEXT 1971 class reunion! I appreciate all that the 'team' did to make the 35th such a success.,and sorry that I was not able to be there. | |||

| Thanks Melinda, Cindi and Donna for making our 35th reunion such a special event! It was great seeing everybody after all these years. I enjoyed talking to Betsy McKinney and Dolores (Dee)Bonewicz at our dinner table. It was fun seeing Mrs. Detwiler, my former Home Ec teacher. Hopefully I'll run into Ann Beth Podolsky (Goldblum) sometime at the library! Best wishes to all! Celia | |||

| I want to thank you for all of you hard work. It was a great time. I am still thinking about it every day. There were so many people that I forget someone and then I realize that they were there. Everything was perfect.....hotel at a great rate for all, seeing everyone at the event (the place was beautiful) and then going to the bar afterwards and seeing even more people that I missed during the event. I wish it could have lasted for days. It was great. Again, I can't thank all of you enough for the work that you did for the class! Kevin Gift | |||

| Melinda: ... It was very thoughtful of you and your wonderful class to think of us when you planned the reunion. It was heartwarming and hard to leave.....I had the pleasure of seeing and speaking with so many people who are vivid in my memory from those days in the early seventies. It was such an ego boost for us to hear a few anecdotes about our relationship with some of the members of the class. It was super to see Nancy Schaller, a former art student of mine who is now department chair in her high school art department in Boston; it was great fun seeing Mike Powell, who is still the enthusiastic and really nice person just as he was he was when I first met him and his brother Jeff and sister Mary Jane when they were kids at the Oreland School.....It was also wonderful seeing Brian Spiwak, and Linda (Gessner) who I also knew in elemementary as well as high school. That Derbyshire guy was an immediate giveway...he hasn't changed a bit! And Rick Finnegan lost his Bob Dylan hair but is very memorable as one of my high school art students. How about Dave Fedeles coming up from Florida to see his classmates? (Editor's note: David came from even further south than FL - St. Croix, VI!) Someone else told me they flew in from Arizona. I suppose there were many other out-of-state members as well... You did a superb job of locating and encouraging everyone to attend, Melinda. Kudos to you and your support group. Thank you again for inviting us....it was also great to see Jim and Joy Sweeney, John and Elaine Pavlick, Bill Rose and of course Perky and John Detweiler. Think of us when you throw your next party.......Harry Franklin | |||

| Even though this is repetitive, it bears repeating. Thank you to the committee for the best reunion ever. Even though we must have set some sort of record for attendance, I hope that classmates who couldn't make it will read all about it and plan to be at the next one. I think we could still squeeze in some more people. One last thing - I hope Gary posts news about his upcoming bundle of joy. I know it's going to be hard for Gary to tell his child he can't make his/her graduation from Med School/Law School/PhD/What Have You because Gary will be attending our 60th reunion! | |||

| Dittos on Rich's comments! It is almost too difficult to describe what a remarkable experience it was seeing so many wonderful people that I have not seen or even been in contact with for 25 and in some cases 35 years. As we sit in the Philly airport awaiting departure, I am encoraged by the fond memories of the reunion, but saddened by the knowledge that the opportunity to see this group again is likely far off. Should anyone wish to email me in the future, the email address I am using here is my work address, which I check more regularly than my home email. Take care and thanks again for a terrific reunion. | To the reunion committee, I finally had the chance to sit and watch the reunion CD, and reflect on Fridays events. 1971 35th reunion was unbelievable. The outcome shows how much effort went into the planning of this event. According to the papers, you have set reunion records. Everyone I spoke to that night and through the weekend, had nothing but the highest praise about the evening. You are an amazing foursome, and the night was nothing less than first class. Thankyou for allowing me to be a small part of this. For me, it was a year of pure enjoyment, side splitting laughter, and getting to know or reconnecting with many. My hat is off to you. Your the best!! Ken | |||

| Please pass this message on to anyone else that was involved in the planning & preparation for the reunion. It was GREAT! I never expected such a large turnout of classmates from near & far. The facilities were great,it was nice & close for me, 3 miles from my home, but the whole setup of the rooms to just stand & talk with old classmates & renew old friendships & make new ones with people I never really had much contact with while in school. You all really did a great job. Thank you for taking the time & effort to put such a great party together. Only thing lacking was more time to reminisce and just spend more time with everyone. I waited a few days to correspond, hoping I'm not one of the ones who respond too soon & get recruited to help at the next reunion. I would be glad to help with the next one. Thanks again to you all for a great time. Happy Holidays, George & Pat Turner | |||

| What a wonderful Reunion weekend! I reconnected with many people I had not seen in a long time and spent quality time with close friends I don't see often enough. I could not have possibly scripted a better outcome. From start to finish, the entire event was beautifully organized and wonderfully managed. Normandy Farm was ideal for such an event. The fact that is very close to my home was an added bonus. I wanted to really express gratitude to all who were involved in the event. It was obvious that good taste, attention to detail and a lot of effort was abundant. This reunion sets the standard other classes should aspire toward. Locating and contacting everyone in the class was incredible, making all classmates feel welcome was wonderful. The Reunion Committee and everyone else involved get my deep appreciation. Watching the CD today allowed me to again reflect on how wonderful the UD Class of 1971 was and is. Thank you all, I wish you all the best. Rich DeMaria | |||

| Hey y'all! I've thoroughly enjoyed popping in to this great website over the past several months to see who else has checked in with an update. It's interesting to see what everybody's been through these past 35 years. Somebody shake me and tell me it hasn't been that long! Man!! I just hope I can recognize a few of you without cheating and looking at your nametag. Thank goodness for the "Then and Now" pix to give me a jumpstart. My last 12,950 days in condensed form---Graduation--U.S. Air Force for 4 years--Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics for 2 years--First job as an aviation maintenance technician at Grumman American Aviation(now Gulfstream Aerospace) in Savannah, Ga.(14 mos.)--Second and current AMT position with Delta Air Lines in Atlanta(27 1/2 yrs.). If you've flown on a Delta jet over the past quarter century+, I've most likely had my hands on it, helping to make it as safe as possible for you. Still an airplane nut, still love to ride my Harleys and garage full of other bikes, still single(hence, the toys). It's been ten years since we've gotten together. Finally, we get to do it again! Happy Thanksgiving, everybody. See you tomorrow! 'Barney' | |||

Been married to wife Nancy (Abington Grad, which I still have problems with) for 26 years, live in Yardley, with two "kids"; Brandon 21, and Amy 20. Close to being an empty nester. I went to work out of college working for the YMCA of the USA, now serving as the CEO of the Hamilton YMCA in NJ. Looking to retire on the golf course or on the soccer field......yes I still play (loosely defined). Great memories of U.D.---my favorite was was watching Chet wake up at the end of class, having tied the venetian blind cord aroung his belt loop, and dashing for the door when the bell rung...pulling the blinds off the wall. The short and sweet of my past 35...after a couple years in Boston I finished up college at Syracuse, where I met my future husband. We moved to New York City in '75 and it's been home ever since - from Studio 54 to 9/11 and everything in between. Worked a number of years for a custom furniture designer, then a few more freelancing - the past 15 have been with the Estee Lauder Companies, where I head the global Creative Services Department for MAC Cosmetics - working with an exciting, creative group of people. Really looking forward to getting together with everyone next month - it'll be great!

| It has been so much fun reading about everyone—memories I didn’t know I had have been flooding back with each new entry. Thank you reunion committee for your diligence in finding and nagging everyone to respond. (Although I personally have not heard from Cindi for several months!) I have lived in West Virginia since 1979 with my husband of 31 years, Jeff, and our very neurotic cat Delia. We have two wisecracking, but sweet sons, Matthew (26) and Scott (24). Matt graduated from RIT with a BFA in photography and is currently working on a graduate degree in Architecture. Scotty graduated from WVU (Go Mountaineers!) in 2004 but decided to pursue a career in education and is back in school at Shepherd University. They are good buddies and we see each other often. I am a social worker turned Marketing Director for our community hospice program. I’ve been there 18 years and love my work, which rewards as much as it challenges. I am a passionate gardener, avid walker, and still sew and bake a lot (with Mrs. Detwiler’s pie crust recipe). Upon reading all of the updates people have sent, I am struck by how many of us are in long term marriages. Good for us! I look forward to seeing all in November. | |||

It will be great to get together with everyone to share war stories. I have been living in Boca Raton, Florida since 1987. I own & operate a mortgage company in Fort Lauderdale. I have 2 daughters 30 & 25 yrs, 1 son 20 yrs. old and 3 grandchildren 9, 6, & 2yrs. old. Nov.24th will be awesome!!

| I wouldn't be answering the invitation that came in today's mail but couldn't resist the website, which loosed a lot of locked-up memories. And Wayne Becker's photograph... what a loss! What I remember most about high school is the numbingly bland small town parochialism. The college campuses were exploding, and we were fighting to wear jeans!? Leaving high school was a liberation. I went to college, moved to NYC, wrote for newspapers and magazines, traveled far and wide. My husband-to-be found me in Israel, and we've been together for 17 years; our two children are 13 and 15. I've just completed an MA in Judaic Studies, have started a PhD program in Judaic Studies and teach at the New School University. I'll end with some good memories of high school: Bill Rose, Harvey Sternberg and his itty bitty mint green Toyota, the English classes in which I realized that language was a liberation, too. | |||

| I was recently contacted by Laurei Katz and she has sent me some info on our class. I am saddened to see how many friends we have lost. Wayne Becker and Hank Wilson were goods friends. I live in Palm Beach, Florida during the winter months and Chadds Ford, Pa. in the summer. Retired, married 21 years, 2 sons: 20 & 18. Still "out to lunch" after so many years. | |||

| My dad had a 1970 red convertable Carman Gia (I think that is the way to spell it?). On one of his business trips I drove it to UD. When classes were over I remember going to the parking lot and my girlfriend was sitting in tight jeans on the hood waiting for me. Man, I thought life can't get any better!!? The best was one year later and having a draft lottery number that was high. Vietnam was always in our minds as Iraq is now. | |||

| I am blown away that any of you remember me as I moved to New England in the 9th grade, and even more blown away that Perry and Bob tried to find me. I will be forever grateful. I have wanted to go back to Upper Dublin reunions a hell of a lot more than the reunions at my high school in Mass. You guys were WAY more fun. Remember "the Guild"?? I remember wearing a paper dress and being a go-go girl at one of the dances (probably 8th grade). Anyway, live on the Oregon coast now, own a gift shop, spend winters in Naples, FL, and am happily divorced for the third time!!!! Can't wait to re-connect with everyone....and thanks Bob... | |||

| Wow! 35 years! Just amazed to be found after all these years. Witness Protection isn't what it used to be! Actually, our family moved right after graduation, I lost total contact, so seeing this website has made me realize how quickly the time has gone. My wife and I and our three young kids live outside of Chicago. I'll try my best to get back but that depends upon what our kids are doing at that time. Glad to read up on so many of you and my thanks to the diligence of the Reunion committee. | |||

A big thank you to the committee and to all of you who have posted your doings (especially Kaithern). Really looking forward to November!

| Thanks to Donna White, I have found the web page. Frankly I am amazed that I have survived this long and will be able to enjoy the 35th. It has been close several times. It will be great to see everyone, especially those that I do not see on a somewhat regular basis now. I am still involved in everything I was 35 years ago, just to a greater extent and with a few new play toys. I can't believe I have had this much fun and only 35 years have passed. Can't wait for the big bash. | |||

| Hello to everyone. I forgot to put in my bio that I was always referred to, by the ladies at U.D., as *FRANK McMANUS's SISTER*. Here's an update on Frank: he married his 8th grade sweetheart, Rita Sokoloski (class of '69), in '73 and divorced her in 2003. He then married a Russian girl HALF HIS AGE. Needless to say, his siblings are not pleased with this. Rita, if you're reading this, we love you & will always think of you as our sis-in-law! Email me!!! | |||

| One of our ideas to raise funds to help offset the cost of the Reuion and future Reunions is to rafferal off some wonder gifts the night of the Reunion. We are looking for classmates who would like to donate an item may be from their business, a friend or family's business. The more we get the more fun we will have. Please contact me if you are interested in making a gift donation. Thank you | |||

| Really enjoyed reading all the comments and look forward to the reunion. I've had a few ties to the past, mostly through Linda Gessner Scheckenbach. She is my daughter Emily's Guidance counselor for 8th grade and was the same for my son Rick, now 25. Emily cheered with Tony Giampa's granddaughter last year but we never met up and I work at the same company with Jean Catanzaro's daughter. I've been in Harleysville since 1980 and am looking forward to Rick's wedding in July. I attended the 1st Hall of Fame induction in November and enjoyed seeing the Fields, Taddeis, Mr. Rose andSweeneys. My brother Otto was inducted from the class of 1956 along with several others including Rob Craig. Thanks to all involved for the web site and all the hard work! Kathy | |||

| Hello to everyone! Thank you for doing a great job on this reunion website. I was very shy when I was in school. I remember all of you though. I went on to nursing school after I graduated from Upper Dublin. I got married in 1974 and have 4 children and 2 grandchildren. I love my family and am very happy! Our family lived in Kenya for 1 year which was great! We did foster care for newborn babies for 11 years, which was wonderful. I work part time at an OB/GYN office in Willow Grove at the present time. I've stayed close by and live in Glenside. I plan to go to the reunion and see all of you. I hope you remember me! | Roger and I are coming up on our 30th wedding anniversary! We've only been back to the 20th reunion, and I remember being surprised that people didn't even know we were dating in high school! Ahh, I remember stolen kisses in the back band hallway.... After his graduation from Lehigh with a Chem. Engr. degree, and mine from Penn State, we moved to the Cleveland, OH area, where he took a job with BFGoodrich Chem. Grp. and I followed in Perky Detwiler's path as a home ec teacher. The kids came along in 81,84,87 and I stayed home from the start. I built a business from home, sewing custom window treatments for designers. Roger is working in the Information Technology group for PolyOne, where parts of BFG have morphed. We've raised three more "Bandos" like ourselves and we've been band parents. Our oldest is a music ed./performance grad in classical trumpet, the second son just made it into the all-brass Ohio State marching band which is a big deal out here, and our freshman girl is also at OSU playing flute in the pep band. So we be broke from double tuition payments but proud as all heck. We still have family in Lansdale and Perkasie, so hope to make it back to see you all! And Cleveland really is a GREAT place to live! Love, Betsy and Roger | |||

| Wonderful people like the Reunion team and helpers give us a chance to reunite, and it already feels good. I'm browsing through this website, talking to the pages outloud. Cannot wait to be there. Feels like returning to planet earth. Remembering what was really important then is sweet: grades, politics..., not getting caught at...., being friends with..., scared to death of Miss Harmon, generally shocked by life, with all engines running. In the meantime, hello to old friends and comrades, from the quiet little village of Chelsea, Quebec. | |||

| How did we ever exist without computers and email? It's amazing how the members of our class have scattered throughout the world! I was on the missing list, which was ironic since I only live in Glenside. Thanks for bringing me back into the loop - to those of you who even remember me! I'm now an assistant principal in North Penn High School - married with a 21 year old daughter and a 16 year old son. It's interesting that I would have died if I was ever called into the principal's office as a student back then, and now I'm that person who deals out suspensions like a deck of cards. Maybe I'll come to the reunion and give all of you detentions. Take care. | |||

I have enjoyed getting updated on the website. I am living in Ashland, Virginia, just north of Richmond with my husband Bill and our youngest daughter Leah, a senior in high school. Our oldest daughter is 23, graduated from college and working as an Occupational Therapist. I am working as a high school special education teacher in a multi-handicapped class, having started my career in special ed after graduating from the University of Delaware, changing careers in 92 and becoming and RN and returning to teaching 5 years ago. | Can we assemble a "business to business yellow pages" for the classmates to refer to in case of need? For example, I need either a qualified handiman OR people specific for: accountant-income tax consultant; financial planner; auto mechanic; plumber; painter; electrician etc. etc. Get my drift ?? | Very well-done website. I had to laugh at the pictures of the 20th (1991) reunion--good grief, even then we were starting to show our age. Me, I've picked up 40 pounds (at least) and lost most of my hair, so will likely be unrecognizable at the 35th. Will have to dig out my "Buddy Holly" tortoise shell glasses, so I'll resemble my yearbook picture. Best memories of UDHS: undoubtedly the marching and concert band (yeah, I was that kind of goody two shoes nerd--played the flute). Wonder where Mr. Karshner, the band director, is today. Personal details: aw, what the h***, save it for the reunion.

| I'm sure everyone might agree that the past three and a half decades have sped by us with no mercy, none. Despite this fact, I still approach life with the same attitude and energy now, as I did then, and apparently most every one of the folks I have stayed in touch with over the years show the same tenacity and spirit. It will be an honor, and a pleasure, to have the opportunity to reunite once again with my classmates, some of whom are alumni from other graduating years but each one from whom I have learned and experienced so much, have guided and been guided, admonished and been admonished, chided and been chided, loved and been loved.
